Dr. Leanne Ward is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Ottawa where she has held a Research Chair in Pediatric Bone Disorders since 2010. She is the Scientific Director of the Ottawa Pediatric Bone Health Research Group, the Medical Director of the Pediatric Genetic and Metabolic Bone Disease Clinic at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), and a pediatric endocrinologist in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at CHEO. Dr. Ward’s research program is dedicated to the study of bone development and the diagnosis and treatment of bone disorders in children, including osteogenesis imperfecta, rickets, hypophosphatasia, and osteoporosis due to chronic illnesses. In 2019, Dr. Ward was named a Fellow of the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, a lifetime achievement award in recognition of significant contributions to bone and mineral science.

Steven G. Waguespack, MD is a Professor in the Department of Endocrine Neoplasia and Hormonal Disorders (with a joint appointment in the Department of Pediatrics-Patient Care) at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, USA. Dr. Waguespack was uniquely trained in both adult and pediatric endocrinology at the Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, and he maintains board certification in both subspecialties. Since 2002, Dr. Waguespack has been on the faculty at MD Anderson and is consistently recognized as one of “America’s Top Doctors for Cancer” in endocrinology. Having a broad scope of practice, Dr. Waguespack’s major clinical and research interests are thyroid cancer, hereditary endocrine tumor syndromes, and pituitary tumors. Dr. Waguespack served as a member of the ATA task force that revised the medullary thyroid cancer guidelines in 2015, was a co-chair of the inaugural 2015 ATA guidelines for pediatric thyroid nodules and differentiated thyroid cancer, and he is currently co-chairing the task force revising the ATA pediatric guidelines. Considered to be an expert in thyroid cancer and other endocrine tumors, Dr. Waguespack is privileged to be able to care for patients with these diseases across the age continuum.

Dr. Merke is a Senior Investigator and Chief of the Pediatric Service at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Her research focuses on the pathophysiology and genetics of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), including the study of a contiguous gene deletion syndrome affecting approximately 10% of CAH patients, termed CAH-X. Dr. Merke is currently conducting a Natural History Study of CAH, with over 450 patients enrolled. She was the first to identify adrenaline deficiency as a new hormonal imbalance in CAH. Central to her work is the study of new treatments, including circadian cortisol replacement adjuvant therapies to allow for lower dose glucocorticoid replacement. Dr. Merke’s studies of CAH provide insight into the clinical and genetic complexities of CAH and promise to improve patient outcome

Associate Professor of Medicine at The University of Sao Paulo (USP), School of Medicine. Dr. Jorge is a principal investigator at the Developmental Endocrinology Unit and Genetic Endocrinology Unit. He is an expert in growth disorders and has published more than 150 papers in international scientific journals, with more than 2,900 citations. Dr. Jorge is responsible for the molecular genetic investigation of several endocrine genetic disorders at the largest hospital in South America (Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo). He is in charge of an outpatient clinic for children with growth disorders, mainly with idiopathic short stature, born small for gestational age, Turner syndrome, Noonan syndrome, and other syndromic short stature, with more than 600 children each year.  His research is centered on discovering and understanding the genetic mechanisms involved in endocrine diseases, in particular those associated with growth and development disorders.

Saul Malozowski graduated from medical school at the University of Buenos Aires where he got his Ph.D.

His clinical training was in the Hospital Ricardo Gutierrez and the Developmental Endocrine Branch at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland where he was also trained in basic and clinical research.  He spent 10 years at the FDA where he was responsible for the review and approval of multiple drugs.  He returned to NIH where he serves as a Program Officer at the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.  Dr. Malozowski is a founding member of SLEP and has been active in the endocrine community and has overseen and managed multiple clinical and epidemiological studies that have advanced the understanding and management of pediatric and adult endocrine conditions.
